Direct Primary Care FAQ
What is Direct Primary Care (DPC)?
DPC is a model where you pay a flat monthly membership fee directly to your provider instead of using insurance for every visit. It restores the provider-patient relationship by removing insurance middlemen and copays.
What do I get for the membership fee?
Your membership entitles you to unlimited primary care visits with no copays. You get direct access to your doctor via text, phone, or email, with same-day or next-day appointments often available. Our services include preventive care, acute care (illnesses), chronic disease management, gender-affirming care, all delivered in extended , personalized visits (usually 30-60 minutes).
How does a DPC practice provide more personalized care?
Since we don't have to jump through additional insurance hurdles, we are able to keep our overhead lower, and our patient panel is smaller. Our practice will carry a maximum of about 300 patients per provider (instead of the 2,000+ patients). This means we have more time to listen and personalize your care plan to your needs. We can provide you with what you need, without extra fluff, and without additional visits and copays.
Do I still need health insurance?
Yes. While DPC covers most of your primary care needs, insurance is still needed to cover things outside the scope of primary care (like surgeries, specialists, and hospital stays), or to cover tests and medications ordered by the practice. Some patients are able to save on their insurance premiums by choosing plans with higher deductibles and HSA/FSA contributions. Your DPC membership fee is even HSA eligible starting in 2026, and most things ordered by DPC practices are FSA eligible.
How does it compare to concierge medicine?
Concierge practices often bill insurance on top of high monthly fees. DPC is more affordable and cuts out insurance completely, focusing 100% on providing you with direct access to your doctor.

Dr. Gross (they/them) founded QCare Family Medicine LLC with the belief that that everyone deserves high-quality, dignified healthcare. Dr. Gross has 25 years experience as a board-certified Family Medicine physician, with more than half of that spent focusing on the unique needs of the LGBTQ community. Through the Direct Primary Care model, they are able to prioritize building the patient-provider relationship over insurance paperwork and barriers, and can keep vital, medically necessary healthcare accessible to our community.
